Keya Chekpa Ognake
Turtle beaded amulet - a Lakota tradition given to the mother of a newborn to tuck his/her naval chord into. The chord represents life within the womb and connection to the mother as well as life outside after birth. Amulets are kept for the baby and hung above the cradle or even used as their first toy.
